Every single one of us have those crappy, awful days. Nothing goes right, friends and relatives disappoint us, the world around us seems bleak at best. Sometimes all it takes is something simple to make us realize that our life is working out as it’s intended. Sometimes we just need a reminder that amazing things will happen!

Many of us, myself included, have things in our life which make it challenging. It may be our boss or coworker, relatives who make life miserable, people who assume they know what you mean without ever talking to you to clarify. It might be an illness in the family, job loss or so many other things. The reality is life will continue to be filled with challenges. There is nothing we can do to avoid them no matter how hard we try. It took me a really long time to learn that the only person I had any control over was myself. How I chose to react to situations and people was the only thing that I could control in almost every situation possible.

I’ve recently had so many friends and acquaintances reach out to me and ask me for advice on problems that they are experiencing in their life. I’ve heard echoes of my own life in their inharmonious relationships, unhappiness, and sorrow. Part of my advice to them has been to stop trying to change a situation, or person. Change how YOU think about the situation, how YOU react to the situation, and how YOU can move forward in the situation. If you can control those things you will be much happier.

My life is not unlike anyone else’s. There are things and people that cause me sorrow and unhappiness. I believe that the universe, for lack of any other word to describe it, provides us with simple signs that things will work out. We have to be open to understanding that those signs are intended for us

My husband and I have recently experienced situations which caused unhappiness. Yet, in the most unexpected way and the most unexpected place, I saw a sign of hope. I was in the Dollar Tree the other day and was looking for a little notebook. I love little notebooks and use them to jot down all sorts of things. All of a sudden in a pile of about 50 notebooks the most amazing notebook appeared. It was the only one like it in the entire bunch. The design on it is one that I am very fond of and use frequently. What was written on it was even more amazing. On the front of the notebook it said “Amazing Things Will Happen”. Those words seemed to soothe my soul. It reminded me that by taking care of myself, and reminding myself I had no control over anyone but me, that amazing things would happen. I just need to lean in, have faith, and endure until those amazing things manifest. There is no need to focus on anyone but myself. I’m the only person I have control over, can change, and am responsible for. I bought the little notebook and tucked it into my purse. Knowing it was there gave me a feeling of faith and comfort. I’m using it daily and as I do so I am reminded of the simplicity of its statement. If I choose to feel peace and happiness, despite negative situations and people, I’m managing the one thing I control. Me.

I believe amazing things are going to happen for everyone. We have to choose to see the positive. We have to turn our back on working in a negative space in which we have no impact or influence. We have to believe every day that amazing things will happen. It will happen if I work on me, myself and I. That’s where magic happens.
